The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams and the last spots will be decided in March through the UEFA play-offs and the FIFA inter-confederation play-off.

16 European teams will fight for the last 4 World Cup spots. They are split into 4 play-off paths (A, B, C and D), each with two semi-finals and a single-leg final. The winner of each path qualifies for the World Cup.
The paths are: A (Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales, Bosnia and Herzegovina), B (Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, Albania), C (Türkiye, Romania, Slovakia, Kosovo) and D (Denmark, North Macedonia, Czechia, Republic of Ireland). Italy will be playing for their World Cup place in these ties.

Besides the European play-offs, 6 teams from different confederations will meet in Mexico to decide the last 2 places at the World Cup.
The paths are: Path 1 (New Caledonia, Jamaica, DR Congo) and Path 2 (Bolivia, Suriname, Iraq). Matches are played between 26 and 31 March 2026 in Guadalajara and Monterrey.
