Regular practice of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division improves calculation fluency, reduces cognitive load, and prepares students for more complex topics like fractions, equations and proportionality.
Recommended routine: 10–12 minutes daily, 12–18 exercises, no calculator, with error review at the end.
Start with small numbers (1–10) and gradually increase the range. Automating single-digit addition is the foundation of all future arithmetic.
If students struggle with borrowing, start with exercises where the top digit is always larger. Increase difficulty step by step.
Tables are not memorized all at once. Work on one per week: ×2, ×5, ×10 first (easy patterns), then the rest.
Always connect division to multiplication. "What number times 4 equals 24?" is easier to grasp than "24 ÷ 4". Once the relationship clicks, it flows naturally.
